Marvi demands the formation of commission ‘to check misused funds’

Islamabad (PFP Report), 21 October:
Member National Assembly Marvi Memon has urged the government to set up an independent commission to ensure the transparency in the utilization of $ 6billion aid donated for rehabilitation of October 2005 earthquake.

“During its upcoming session, the Parliament should be informed about the spending of $ 6 billion to check the productivity and financial transparency of Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA).”
She was talking to the representatives of civil society groups from affected areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa.
PML-Q legislator Miss Marvi assured the officials of Tahreek Tameer-e-Nau (TTN) that she will highlight the miseries of quake affectees at every forum.
“ All Pakistan is my constituency, so I will fight for the rights of people of AJK and KPK till the rehabilitation of quake hit areas is completed,” she maintained.
She demanded that detailed expanses of ERRA’s account must be investigated to inform the public and their representatives about the real performance of this vital naitional body.
“Any diversions of foreign aid for quake victims to Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and other projects need to be shared with parliament and then reversed immediately,” she added.
Miss Memon warned that flood affected areas might face the similar end if government fails to fulfil the aspirations of quake hit areas.

Criticizing the snail’s pace of rebuilding activities of major affected cities of AJK and KPK, she said that 84 per cent reconstruction work of schools, hospitals and other public sector structures is yet to be done.
She also urged the authorities to investigate the alleged mishandling of Rs 700 million in ERRA’s Rehabilitation Project for the rehabilitation of the special people.
The delegation comprising Col. Yaqoob, Raja Wasim, Mehtab Ashraf, Sabzada Aftab and others officials of TTN shared the problems of people of AJK and KPK with the legislator.
