Following the Killing and gang rape of two women by unidentified men in Shopian District of South Kashmir today hundreds of people stage protest and chanted anti government slogans. The common life in Shopain and adjoining areas remained disturbed and people were not allowed to move out of their homes. Hundreds of people came open on roads although Govt. and police with the help of civic administration tried their best to impose the UN official curfew in Area.
Political parties, traders’ Federation and other organizations have condemned the killing of two women and have demanded the Justice and legal action against the involved. Eye witnesses say that people blocked the roads with big stones and trees. Protesters demanded independent investigation of the murder and called upon authorries to stop violation of human rights.
Human rights groups and separatist leaders have long accused the Indian military of using rape and sexual molestation to intimidate the local population.
