Pakistan urged to take urgent steps to save UN official

Press for Peace (PFP) has urged the government of Pakistan to take urgent measure to save the life of abducted UN official.

UN refugee agency official Joan Solecki was kidnapped last month in Balochistan, Southeastern Pakistani province by a local separatist group
The kidnapers of UN official have set 48 hours deadline for Pakistani government to meet their demands. The Balochistan Liberation Untied Front has demanded release of more than 1 100 people allegedly arrested by Pakistani security agencies.

In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, Press for Peace (PFP) UK said the ratio of attacks and kidnapping of foreign relief workers have been increasing with each passing day, which is not a good sign for government of Pakistan.
Director PFP UK, Ejaz Ur Rehman called upon Pakistani authorities to provide shelter to the workers of international humanitarian agencies working in different areas of the country.
He also appealed to the captors of Joan Solecki to release him on the basis of humanity, and urged the government to avoid any hasty action that may endanger his life.
The PFP director said that miscreants had also been carrying series of attacks on different NGOs and other relief workers. “If these types of cruel incidents continue in future, then all the organizations would force to leave the country and beneficiaries of these humanitarian organizations would be severely affected,” he added.
Referring the tragic incident of murder of a Polish Engineer, Piotr Stanczak killed by Taliban captors earlier this month, he said that government of Pakistan must take urgent measure to save the life of abducted UN official who rendered splendid humanitarian services in a far-flung and troubled zone of the country.
He said that the aid agencies and foreign workers were working under a constant threats and danger in Northern Pakistan, particularly the Taliban hit NWFP and Baluchistan province where some separatist groups have mounted armed struggle against state forces for the enforcement of Shraia and other demands.He also demanded to provide extraordinary security to foreign techniqual personal working in earthquake hit areas of Pakistan controlled Kashmir and NWFP.
