‘The reinstatement of judges’ dawns an era of hope’: PFP

LONDON,(PFP Report) March 16, 2009

Press for Peace (PFP) has welcomed the reinstatement of sacked Pakistani judges and called upon all democratic forces to join hands for the strengthening of democracy and rule of law in Pakistan.

In a letter written to former Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif, Press for Peace (PFP) Executive Director Zafar Iqbal said the credit of reinstatement of judges goes to political forces, media and civil society which expressed firm believe on their legitimized and principal stance in spite of arrests, intimidation and loss of precious lives in former Mushraff regime and present PPP government.

“People of Pakistan have been waiting for a just social and political system in the country since long which only could be achieved through rule of law and fortification of democracy”, it said.

The PFP hoped that recent successful struggle for the restoration of independent judiciary would dawn a new era where basic rights of all citizens would be safeguarded equally.

It urged all democratic forces to observe true national reconciliation to strengthen the democracy in the country.
