Amanda Mueller Awarded 2009 SIANS Human Rights Award

Amanda Mueller is a researcher of Press For Peace and independent journalist from New Orleans, Louisiana, will become the 10th recipient of the Southern Irish-American Non-Violence Society Human Rights Award.
Ms. Mueller will be honored for her continued commitment to bring awareness to international human rights violations while supporting and maintaining a commitment to non-violent resistence. Being one of the few journalists primarily covering Palestinian issues in the United States, Ms. Mueller continues to promote peace, tolerance, and ethnic conflict resolution while giving an alternative voice through ethical and accurate reporting on very difficult issues such as child detainment, military violence and home demolition.
The Award is presented annually to a person or organization, which has consistently exemplified by action, purpose and dedication, concern for the basic rights of all people. Established in 1999, this is the first time the award will be presented to a journalist. It will be presented during SIANS yearly conference in Atlanta, Georgia in January 2010.
