Destitute widow seeks help from Chief justice

A widow from a remote area of Muzaffarabad seeks help from Chief Justice to protect her from some influential villagers who forcefully occupied her land to construct a road after inflicting severe torture.

According to details Gulab Jan widow of Khani Zuman, resident of Hotereri village, located in outskirts of Muzaffarabad was severely beaten up by five persons including Abdur Rashid when she refused to give her small piece of land for construction of road.

Talking to journalists the widow alleged that the accused occupied her property and constructed a road.
“Police has refused to lodge FIR against the culprits in spite of the fact that I waited at the doorsteps of concerned police station for a whole day”, she added.

She demanded that chief justice should take suo moto action against the accused and ensure her protection. She asked for help from government alleging that ‘the perpetrators are threatening her for dire consequences’.

Local human rights organizations have condemned this incident and have demanded that government should initiate independent inquiry of the happening.
It is worthmentiong here that civil rights organizations have been demanding the establishment of women police stations in the region in order to provide speedy justice to helpless women.
